From exploring numbers, colours, shapes and patterns in the many galleries to interactive taught sessions tailored to the national curriculum, the British Museum is a place for discovery for young children.

Objects from around the world and across time offer opportunities to explore how people live, communicate and decorate their world. Experience the wonder of the Museum building and practice art, literacy and numeracy skills in a taught workshop or investigate a theme of your choice on a self-led visit.

Discover our on-site offer of facilitated school sessions and resources to help plan a self-led visit. We also offer classroom resources based around the collection.

The new Energy Centre Programme, part of the Museum's Masterplan, will support our path to net zero and requires major infrastructure work. As a result, there will therefore be changes to our schools offer.

Schools offer update

We have some exciting changes happening that support our path to net zero as part of the Museum's Masterplan. This will mean some reductions in public programmes, including facilitated school programmes, in-person school group visits and lunch and locker capacity at the Museum whilst key infrastructure work is carried out.

The Museum recognises that this reduction in capacity may lead to some disappointment for schools and students, however, the Museum's learning team are working hard to bring new programming opportunities for schools later in the year.
