This exciting new touring exhibition invites the visitor to explore the world of hieroglyphs and their meanings as a gateway into an ancient world.

Egyptian hieroglyphs have always intrigued people as they provide a glimpse into an ancient civilisation. Every aspect of ancient Egyptian culture, its religious practice, monumental buildings and bureaucratic details, relied on a writing system developed around 3250 BC. Following the conquest of Alexander the Great in 332 BC, ancient scripts slowly fell out of use in Egypt and were displaced by Greek and Arabic. As a new alphabet was used to record spoken language, the connection between the language and hieroglyphs vanished.
