This display delves into the British Museum's spectacular Book of the Dead collection: religious and magical spells recorded on papyrus, which the ancient Egyptians believed would assist the deceased in achieving a perfect afterlife.
Featuring 35 images of the finest examples taken from these papyri, visitors will be able to see the intricacy of the ancient hieroglyphic script up close, as well as beautiful coloured illustrations. The images show how ancient Egyptians navigated different perils and gateways, placated gods and demons, and faced judgement on their journey through the afterlife.
The British Museum Unseen series is a new touring offer that explores a variety of stories about the British Museum collection, loaned as a digital package to provide partners with maximum flexibility for presentation in their own venues. This package includes 35 high-resolution images, pre-designed and ready-to-print panel and label text with enhanced display assets including a soundscape.
