The British Museum works across the UK in partnership with more than 200 cultural organisations.
From Shetland to Truro, Aberystwyth to York, around eight million people outside of London saw a British Museum object in 2023–24.
We are committed to sharing the collection and our knowledge as widely as possible to create a positive educational, social and economic impact across the UK. Our loans to partnership museums and galleries facilitate new perspectives on our shared global history, reflecting diverse viewpoints, lived experiences and collective ideas.
Our work
Our nationwide network of museums, galleries, libraries and heritage organisations delivers a wealth of activity through Partnership Galleries, Touring Exhibitions, youth programmes, the creation of digital experiences and the ground-breaking Portable Antiquities Scheme.
Working together with our partners, we support local priorities by building relationships with not only museum colleagues, but with councillors and mayors to better understand local plans and the specific context of a region.
The British Museum is grateful to the Dorset Foundation in memory of Harry M Weinrebe for their support of our national work.
