Curator's comments
Smith 1988 A woman is about to wash her face from the ritual lacquered basin called a 'tsunodarai'. The inscription makes it clear that this is an advertisement for a joruri (recited drama) performance on the 23rd of the sixth month. The signature is 'Painted by Sori changing his name to Hokusai'.
